Newton Chamber announces 2019 Fourth of July parade theme

Asking for grand marshal nominations

The Newton Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the annual Fourth of July celebration.

The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the theme this year is “Peace, Love and Freedom,” and the chamber is looking for parade entries that are creative and keep with this fun theme.

“With the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock music festival happening this year, the Chamber Ambassadors chose this classic American theme to celebrate our freedom and to provide a happy, fun theme to gather some really amazing floats for the parade,” Amanda Price, chamber executive director said.

The chamber is calling for parade grand marshal nominations. If you know a person(s) who is worthy of this proud distinction, fill out the nomination form and turn it in no later than May 20. These forms can be found on the chamber's website, www.experiencenewton.com or at its office, 113 First Ave. W. in Newton.

As always for the Fourth of July celebration, there will be food vendors on the square before and after the parade. The afternoon activities with the City of Newton will begin at 1 p.m. at Agnes Patterson Park. Those activities include; a sand volleyball tournament, home-run derby, kids zone activities and music. The night will end with a bang as the fireworks light up the sky over Agnes Patterson park at dusk.

If you are interested in participating in the City of Newton's sand volleyball tournament, you must register your team. For more information about these activities and how to register visit www.newtongov.org

For those who wish to enter a float in the parade, the chamber is accepting creative entries. The judges will be looking for detailed, creative float entries that are related to the theme, “Peace, Love, and Freedom.” You can stop in to the office and fill out an entry form or go to our website and submit your entry online. A $10 donation is requested with all entries.
