Baxter golfers split with Iowa Star rival GMG

CONRAD — Baxter’s golf teams split an Iowa Star Conference dual meet with GMG on April 23 at Oakwood Country Club.

Sadie Meyer earned medalist honors and her younger sister Sophie Meyer was the runner-up medalist in the girls’ meet as the Bolts downed the Wolverines 235-265.

On the boys’ side, GMG took both medals and dominated Baxter 174-222.

All six Wolverine golfers shot less than 50.

Sadie Meyer won the girls’ meet with a 54, and Sophie Meyer was second with a 58.

Piper Larson also had a 59 for the Bolts and the final counting score of 64 went to Bekka Watt. Abbey Shepley shot a non-counting 66.

GMG’s Aaron Fleming cruised to medalist honors on the boys’ side with a 38. Kamrin Chizek shot a 45 in second.

Austin Good led the Bolts with a 48 and Derrick Klemme carded a 49. But no other golfer was under 60.

Shane Beougher (61) and Andrew Klemme (64) had the final counting scores, while Christian Brandt (65) and Zach Backus (70) had non-counting scores.

Baxter golfers finish third at BCLUW 

Sadie Meyer shot a 53 and Abbey Shepley fired a 54, but Baxter’s girls’ golf team finished third in a road triangular on April 25 at Oakwood Golf Course.

Baxter shot a 239 as a team. BCLUW won with a 193 and West Marshall fired a 210.

The other two counting scores for the Bolts came from Piper Larson (64) and Sophie Meyer (68). Bekka Watt (75) had a non-counting score.

BCLUW’s Abigail Hand won medalist honors with a 44 and West Marshall’s Karisa Blocker finished second with a 46.

On the boys’ side, Baxter finished third with a 238. West Marshall won the meet with a 170 and BCLUW was next with a 187. The boys’ meet was at South Hardin Recreation Area in Union.

Austin Good led the Bolts with a 49 and the other counting scores came from Matt Grimes (58), Carter Samson (64) and Derrick Klemme (67). The two non-counting scores came from Andrew Klemme (69) and Zach Backus (70).

BCLUW’s Lane Stanley won medalist honors with a 34. BCLUW’s Caleb Keigan was the runner-up with a 40.

Baxter was scheduled to compete at 4:15 p.m. on April 29 at Twin Anchors Golf Course in Colo. The boys also take part in the Iowa Star Conference tournament at 10 a.m. on April 30 in Waterloo.

The Bolt girls compete in the conference tournament at 10 a.m. on May 6 at Oakwood Golf Course in Conrad.
