Get ready for some fun

Monroe Elementary Family Fun Night May 10

A new inflatable with carnival games is just one of the many reasons to head out to the Monroe Elementary PTA’s annual Family Fun Night May 10. From 6 to 8 p.m. at Monroe Elementary, kids and their families are invited to play games, make crafts, have a bite to eat and have a great time while raising money for the school.

“The PTA views Fun Night as a celebration for our students for an amazing school year,” PTA President Cathy DeHaai said. “We also look at it as a fundraiser through the free will donation meal and a portion of the admission, as well.”

For just $5 per child, kids can play games including football toss, a giant Connect Four, bowling tick-tac-toe, Kerplunk, lollipop pull and Plinko, take a train ride or compete in a trike race and play in a bounce house and the inflatable obstacle course. Entry also includes one ticket for a craft such as slime making, sand art, paddle ball, pinwheels or to get a snow cone. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each.

A staple at Fun Night, Kiwanis will continue the fun at its book walk where kids walk on numbered spaces until the music stops. Then, a giant dice is rolled to determine which number wins with the prize being a brand new book.

The night wouldn’t be complete without a hot dog or two along with many tasty desserts to choose from. The hot dog supper is available for free will donation. Raffle baskets will also be on display for bid throughout the night.

Funds collected at Fun Night are used by the PTA for a variety of projects and activities for teachers and students at the school. From supporting classroom needs to financing class field trips, the PTA works to make every student’s learning experience a strong one.

“We continue to support our teachers through mini-grants. We also approve additional spending for classrooms when requested. We just bought new Bluetooth speakers for the music room, as well as supporting assemblies, teacher appreciation and the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports),” DeHaai said.

The event will take place rain or shine but some activities will be modified depending on the weather.
