Des Moines Performing Arts announces 2019-20 season

Willis Broadway Series season ticket packages on sale now

DES MOINES — The Des Moines Performing Arts unveiled its 2019-20 season. This announcement includes the critically acclaimed "The Band's Visit" in the first year of the show’s national tour.

Since opening the Civic Center doors in June of 1979, DMPA has entertained more than 10 million guests in its four venues (Civic Center, Stoner Theater, Temple Theater and Cowles Commons). Adding to the excitement of the season announcement, DMPA shares the addition of a new series, National Geographic Live. The series features three speakers from the National Geographic roster highlighting behind the scenes stories from their impressive careers.

“Our programming seeks to provide entertainment that will inspire, challenge and move our audiences,” says Jeff Chelesvig, President and CEO of Des Moines Performing Arts. “We curate our season to bring the finest world-class tours to Central Iowa and we are delighted with all the 2019-20 season has to offer.”

• "Riverdance" 25th Annivesary Show

• "The Band's Visit"

• "The Book of Morman"

DMPA has a long tradition of investing in Broadway productions. The 2019-20 season features two DMPA-invested shows, "The Band's Visit" and "Jesus Christ Superstar."

Continuing its commitment to present diverse programming that’s compelling and accessible, DMPA also announces the shows coming to the Prairie Meadows Temple Comedy Series, Prairie Meadows Live at the Temple Concert Series, Wellmark Family Series and The Dance Series. Among the many notable engagements are Lisa Lampanelli’s "Losin' It" and the world premiere of Pat Hazell’s "Permanent Record," both part of the Prairie Meadows Temple Comedy Series.

Season tickets for the Willis Broadway Series and National Geographic Live are on sale now. All other series’ season tickets will go on sale later this spring.
