Colfax Country Christmas to take place Dec. 1

The Downtown Colfax businessess should have plenty of reasons to feel ‘merry’ this holiday.

From 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1, Colfax Country Christmas will have a variety of activities to kick off the holiday season.

According to Stuart Patterson, executive director of Colfax Main Street, Santa Claus is going to be in town, at the Front Street Shop where people can get photos with Santa.

“The owner of the store will be taking the photographs,” Patterson said. “People can get a free digital picture with Santa if you bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Colfax-Mingo Area Food Pantry.”

In addition to the Santa photos, the event will also have horse-drawn carriage rides sponsored by Dickerson Mechanical. Letters to Santa will take place at the Hair Gallery.

Carollers will be all over town filling the air with their singing voices, while a soup supper will be provided by the Methodist Church at the senior citizens building.

New this year is an event called Colfax Country Christmas Passports, where kids will get a passport they will show at different businesses and collect stamps for their passport and get a free treat. Their name will be put into a drawing for $25 worth of Colfax bucks for one winner.

All businesses will be open late that night so people can shop.

“Colfax Country Christmas has been going on for several years. Main Street has taken over the event for the last couple of years,” Patterson said. “We have tried to make sure that it’s a fun activity, and there’s a lot of interesting activities to do.”
