Jasper County Republicans announces annual trap shoot Saturday

The Jasper County Republican Party has announced its 5th annual trap shoot fundraiser will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jasper County Gun Club, 550 W. 28th St. S., Newton. Shooting will be $50, which includes two rounds of 25 targets, a commemorative T-shirt and lunch. Lunch and t-shirts can be purchased separately for $10 each.

This year we will be honoring the late Iowa Gov. Robert D. Ray. Gov. Ray exemplified what is great about Iowa — character, hard work, fairness and compassion. His memory brings all of us together in this current period of divisiveness.

This event is the Republicans largest fundraiser of the year and helps promote and elect GOP candidates and supply our absentee ballot program. The trap shoot is gaining notoriety around Iowa as a unique and exciting fundraiser that statewide candidates, as well as local candidates want to come to.

This year’s invited guests include Jasper County supervisor candidate Brandon Talsma, Jasper County Supervisor Denny Carpenter, Iowa House District 28 candidate Jon Thorup, Iowa House District 29 candidate Ann Howell, Iowa Senate District 15 candidate Zach Nunn as well as current District 28 State Representative Greg Heartsill, District 14 State Senator Amy Sinclair, U.S. congressional District 2 candidate Dr. Christopher Peters, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate and Gov. Kim Reynolds.

This is a fun, family friendly event for everyone, not just shooters. The day consists of rounds of trap shooting mixed with short speeches from candidates followed by a barbecue lunch catered by Moo’s.
