A traffic stop in northeast Newton late Friday night resulted in a pursuit through residential neighborhoods and ended in the 1300 block of South Sixth Avenue East with the suspect’s arrest.
The Newton Police Department reports 32-year-old Timothy Ballard of Newton, was arrested and charged with eluding and several other traffic offenses as a result of the incident.
According to police, officers attempted to stop a driver, Ballard, at 9:54 p.m. for a stop violation when he fled, running several stop signs before pulling into a residence on South Sixth Avenue East. Ballard allegedly resisted officers attempts to arrest him.
Ballard is also facing charges of interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
