Baxter Bolts sweep Tripoli

TRIPOLI — The Baxter baseball and softball teams swept Tripoli during Iowa Star Conference play on Monday night.

For the Bolts baseball team, it was the first win of the season as they downed Tripoli 11-2. The softball team improved to 7-5 with a 14-0 win.

Over on the baseball diamond, sophomore Carter Nelsen got the complete-game win as he allowed two runs on six hits and struck out eight in seven innings.

At the plate, junior Derrick Klemme continued to swing a hot bat, finishing with four hits. The Bolts had 11 hits and walked five times in the game.

The Bolts (1-9 overall, 1-6 in the conference) scored one in the first and then extended the lead to 9-0 after scoring four runs in the second and third innings.

Tripoli (6-4, 5-4) plated its two runs in the fourth, but Baxter countered with two runs in the fifth.

Baxter’s softball team improved to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Bolts came into the game losers of four of their last five games but plated 12 runs in the fourth inning to end the game early.

Tripoli lost its ninth straight game and dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

Baxter hosts Riceville in both softball and baseball at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Baxter.
