NASHUA — Ties go on to state. Lynnville-Sully junior Tessa Van Maanen tied for eighth place, won the scorecard playoff to claim eighth at Monday’s Class 1A Region 3 golf tournament.
Van Maanen finished with a 94 for the 18-hole event at the Town & Country Golf Course in Nashua. She had rounds of 46 and 48. Van Maanen tied with Peyton Olson of Newman Catholic, who also shot a 94, but won the scorecard playoff going back four holes.
Van Maanen advances to the Class 1A state tournament as the top eight finishers and two teams from each regional qualify for state. The 1A state tournament is May 29-30 at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
The regional medalist was Jaden Sschweinefus of South Winneshick with an 80. Claire Schafer of North Tama was the runner up with an 87.
Riley Mayer of St. Edmond and Morgan Moeller of Tripoli each shot an 89 to finish third and fourth, respectively.Bishop Garrigan’s Bella Capeslus had a 90 for fifth followed by BCLU’s Lauren Anderson at 91 and Grundy Center’s Frannie Brown with a 93.
Bishop Garrigan claimed the Region 3 team championship with a four-play score of 387. BCLUW was second with a 390. Grundy Center took third at 398 followed by host Nashua-Plainfield at 405.
St. Edmond was fifth at 406 followed by South Winneshieck at 408. Newman Catholic finished with a 420 for seventh and St. Ansgar was eighth with a 467.
Lynnville-Sully’s team finished ninth in the field of nine teams. The Hawks had a combined team score of 504.
Junior Kayla Van Dyke finished with a 135 (70-65). Senior Skyler Young had a 137 (67-70) and senior Hailey Scandridge had a 138 (68-70).
