Lynnville-Sully’s Jansen advances to 1A district golf

Bolts, Hawks play sectional golf

NEW SHARON — What a difference a year makes? Lynnville-Sully senior Holden Jansen carded a 10-shot lower score on the same course to qualify for his second straight Class 1A district golf tournament.

As a junior, Jansen shot a 93 in the 1A sectional golf tournament at Prairie Knolls Country Club golf course in New Sharon. On Friday, Jansen extended his senior season with a fourth-place finish by shooting an 83.

Lynnville-Sully and Baxter’s boys competed in the 18-hole sectional golf tournament hosted by North Mahaska.

Moravia won the team championship with a 357 while North Mahaska had a 355 and Martensdale-St. Marys finished with a 375. All three move on to the 1A district tournament on Friday at Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita.

The sectional meet medalist was Martensdale-St. Marys senior Kolton Fisk with a 79. The runner up was Mateo Varese, a senior from Moravia, with an 81 and third place went to North Mahaska junior Blake Fisher with an 82.

And just like a year ago, Jansen and Southeast Warren senior Brandon Dittmer, who shot an 85, earned a spots at the 1A district golf meet as the top two individuals not on the three qualifying teams for sectionals. Jansen had rounds of 41 and 42 to reach 83 while Dittmer carded rounds of 43 and 42.

“Holden was pleased with how he played and was very consistent,” Lynnville-Sully co-head coach Jennifer Kramer said. “The rain had stopped by the time they went to tee off. It was pretty chilly in the upper 50s and lower 60s.”

Lynnville-Sully was fourth as a team with a 422. Baxter’s Bolts and Southeast Warren each finished with a four-man total of 450.

Junior Abram Collins finished with a 97 on rounds of 46 and 51 for the Hawks. The No. 3 golfer on the day for Lynnville-Sully was sophomore Logan Ingersoll with a 116 (60-56).

Freshman Luke Kramer had the final team score — 126 (63-63) — for Lynnville-Sully. Junior Cade Dibello shot a 135 (70-65).

“Abram seemed to struggle on the second round as there were a few holes played slow,” Kramer said. “Both Cade and Logan reduced strokes on their second nine. Luke was pleased with his tee shots and it appeared he began to really begin to make contact with the ball and had some nice drives.”

Leading the Bolts in their first 1A sectional was junior Austin Good, who carded a 97 on rounds of 50 and 47. Junior Derrick Klemme finished with a 103 with rounds of 52 and 51 followed by sophomore Shane Beougher with a 116 (62-55). Freshman Andrew Klemme shot a 134 (72-62).

“Derrick played his best golf of the year, which is a great way to end it,” Baxter coach Zach Hasselbrink said. “Austin was happy with his day, came in right around his average for the year. Shane battled back after a rough start to salvage his round.”

Baxter also had juniors Matt Grimes (71-66) and Seth Williams (67-70) playing in the sectional and carding 137s.

Friday’s Class 1A district meet tees off at 10 a.m. at Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita and is hosted by CAM High School.
