Larry Duane Van Wyngarden, 66, died Wednesday morning, May 10, 2017, in Haverhill, due to a farming/trucking accident.
Larry was born the son of Henry and Minnie C. (Hol) Van Wyngarden Sept. 23, 1950, in Oskaloosa. He was a graduate of Pella Christian High School. Larry served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict.
On May 12, 1970, Larry was united in marriage with Barbara J. Van Sant in Newton. To this union two children were born, Steve and Suzy. Larry was a local truck driver for the Heartland Co-Op. He was a loving husband, father, papa, son and brother. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed NASCAR, hunting and hot air ballooning and was a member of the Newton American Legion Post #111.
Larry is survived by his wife Barbara; his son, Steve (Amanda) Van Wyngarden of Newton; his daughter, Suzy (Joel) Foley of Lewiston, Idaho; his six grandsons; his mother, Minnie Van Wyngarden of Pella; brothers, Walt (Isla) Van Wyngarden of Caledonia, Mich., Daryl Van Wyngarden of New Sharon and Ron (LeAnn) Van Wyngarden of Johnston; a sister, Sherry (Doug) Pfadenhauer of Pella; his nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and his many good neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry; two sisters-in-law, Cheri and Sheryl; and a nephew, Brett.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, at the Newton Church of the Way, with a visitation 9:30 a.m. until service time, at the church. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will be in the Veteran’s section at Newton Union Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Larry’s family or a charity of your choosing.
