Ronald Gene Thompson

Ronald Gene Thompson, 72, of Colfax, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29 at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Colfax or Mingo Fire Department or the Colfax-Mingo Booster Club. The son of James C. and Wanda (Galloway) Thompson, Ron was born Feb. 14, 1943, in Omaha, Neb. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1961. On Aug. 31, 1963, he was united in marriage to Donna Reed. He worked at Maytag for more than 30 years. Ron was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks fan. Ron always enjoyed his Sunday morning friends, for food of course and co-owned and ran Reed’s Greenhouse.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna of 52 years; three children, Tony (Nancy) Thompson, Tina (Gary) Ross and Troy (Tracie) Thompson; 11 grandchildren, Bailey (Eric) Hume, Brooke Thompson, Taylor Ross, Brady Ross, Dylan Thompson, Rylee Thompson, Sami Lahart, Steven Lahart, Sara Lahart, Shaylee Shedenhelm and Shanen Shedenhelm; and two great-grandchildren, Harper Hume and Ellie Borts. Also surviving are his siblings, Marilyn (Jack) Rhone and Janet (John) Gunsaulus; brothers-in-law, Gary (Patty) Reed and Keith (Nancy) Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; and his in-laws, Ray and Mardelle Reed.
