Two Newton Police officers promoted to sergeant

The Newton Police Department promoted Chad Plowman and Chris Wing to the position of sergeant this week as part of a departmental restructuring.

Plowman is a 16-year veteran of the department and has served as traffic safety officer, child passenger safety seat technician, field training officer, narcotics detective and board member on the Jasper County Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. Plowman has an associate’s degree in police science from Hawkeye Community College.

Wing is a 14-year veteran of the department and has served as a bike patrol officer, firearms instructor, SWAT team leader, sniper, field training officer, technical accident investigator and detective in the investigative unit and has completed criminal justice course work through Des Moines Area Community College.

Both sergeants began their duties on Jan. 18 with Sgt. Plowman being assigned to late night patrol and Sgt. Wing to the investigations division.
