NORWALK — Newton High’s girls made the most of adverse bowling alley lane conditions at Val Lanes to remain undefeated. The Cardinal girls defeated host Norwalk, 2,078-1,705 Saturday.
The Newton boys chalked up another victory in dual action, beating Norwalk, 2,677-2,332. Both Cardinal teams had strong pin advantages following the individual games against Norwalk.
“They bowled on very tough lane conditions where the lanes were really dry and the oil pattern only had oil down the middle of the lane,” Newton head coach Brett Jacobs said. “The girls’ scores were down again, but this time due to the lane conditions at Val Lanes and the bowlers having a tough time adjusting to them.”
Jacobs said the boys continue to show improvement in their wins, which is what he wants to see as the teams get closer to the end of the season.
Madison Humphrey had the top girls’ score for the meet and for the Cardinals. She rolled a 295 on games of 171 and 124. Mariah Gonzales had games of 146 and 142 for a 288 and Alexis Etter bowled a 285 (161-124).
Alicia Miller had a 267 (121-146) and Kaytie Hughes scored a 255 series (117-138). Alyssa White finished with a 227 (114-113).
The Newton girls led Norwalk, 1,390-1,108, going into the Baker Games. Newton had scores of 131, 156, 138, 133 and 130 for the Baker Games.
Shae Carre and Reid Miller each rolled 400-plus series to lead the Cardinal boys. Carre had games of 200 and 220 for a team and dual-high 420. Miller finished a 405 on games of 172 and 233. Shaiden Simmons had a 350 (181-169).
Sam Supino finished with a 342 (156-186) and Reece Thurmond had a 332 (153-179). Cutter Benac had a 285 (149-136).
Newton’s boys were up 1,849-1,527 heading into the Baker Games. They posted scores of 169, 171, 164, 194 and 130 for the Baker Games.
