MAT Tumbling and Trampoline host first home meet of the season

MAT Tumbling and Trampoline recently hosted their first of two competitions for the 2015-2016 season at the Marshalltown Community College Campus on Dec. 12-13.

The gym and awards area were filled with candy and laughter as parents, athletes and coaches enjoyed a Candy land themed competition. The awards area was decorated with life-size ginger bread houses complete with gingerbread boys and girls and some life-size lollipops to put everyone in the spirit.

More than 600 athletes from around the state of Iowa attended the two-day event. The MAT Team had more than 70 athletes compete ranging in age from 4 to 18. The two day competition featured three events including Power Tumbling, Olympic Trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline. The Olympic Trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline events were held on Saturday, while the Power Tumbling events were held on Sunday.

Many athletes on the “Green Team” were competing for the very first time, or were competing for the first time at a new level. Two MAT athletes accomplished “ELITE” status, which is the highest status an athlete can achieve in the sport of power tumbling/trampoline. Those athletes were: Chelsea Trotter on Tumbling, Trampoline, and Double Mini Trampoline; and Stacey Slaven on Tumbling.

“Our athletes did well this weekend, and I am proud of their preparation over that last couple months. We have some room for improvement, but they all did great,” Coach Ron Brooks said.
