Newton man arrested for gun threat

A Newton man was arrested after threatening to kill a man with his gun.

Zachary W. Souder, 21, is charged with harassment after authorities were called at 1:08 p.m. Friday to the 1800 block of West Fourth Street North.

Souder had sent numerous texts to his ex-girlfriend and her brother, making allegations about her and her family, according to a police report. One of the texts he sent said the next time he saw him he was “gonna take his weapons permit, his .357 Magnum and he was going to kill him,” according to the police report.

Souder admitted to sending the message and had received a permit to purchase a gun on Aug. 24, police said.

He was taken to the Jasper County Jail where he posted a $2,000 bond. A no-contact order was also requested by the victim.
