Joe R. Harrelson

Joe R. Harrelson, 85, of Newton, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. The family will celebrate Joe’s life by greeting friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14 at the Newton Elks Club, 111 E. Second St. N. in Newton. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery in Marshalltown.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Newton Elks Lodge No. 1270. Memorials may be left at the Elks at the time of the visitation or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Please add, Attn: Harrelson Family on the envelope.

Those left to honor Joe’s memory are his children, Dennis (Linda) Harrelson of Newton, Kenneth Michael (Debbie) Harrelson of Marshalltown and Roger Harrelson of Newton; his son-in-law, Tom Mavin of Greenwater, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, Jessica Mavin, Josh (Mandy) Mavin, Joe (Stephanie) Hartgers, Zach Harrelson, Toby Harrelson, Caleb Harrelson, Brice (Stephanie) Harrelson, Brittney Harrelson, Morgan Harrelson, Doston Harrelson, Travis (Sarah) Harrelson, Jeremiaha (Michelle) Harrelson, Breanna Harrelson, Stacy Meyer and Michelle (Justin) Lambert; many great-grandchildren; and his brother, George A. (Betty) Harrelson of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley in 2011; daughter, Rebecca Mavin; and brother, Dale Harrelson.
