Shirley M. Atwood

Shirley M. Elliott Atwood, 80, of Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

As per Shirley’s wishes, she was cremated and no services are scheduled. A private family burial will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date. Memorials to Project Awake for the Newton Arboretum & Botanical Garden may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Those left to honor Shirley’s memory are her husband, Alan of Newton; son, Chris (Jenna) Atwood of West Des Moines; her four granddaughters, Payton, Riley, Reagan and Madeline; and sister, Sondra Ripple of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
