No. 11 Lynnville-Sully girls 55, Belle Plaine 23
SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s girls had a bit of a sub-par first half Friday night, then turned up the heat on visiting Belle Plaine. The Hawks led 20-12 at halftime and outscored the Plainsman girls 35-11 in the second half.
Winning 55-23, the Hawks improved to 7-0 on the season and 6-0 atop the South Iowa Cedar League.
“We didn't come in the first half and play very well on either end of the floor,” said Jerry Hulsing, Hawk head coach. “The second half was a different story played much better. Our offense was sharper as we added ball fakes and were a little more patient allowing cuts to open up.”
The Hawks shot 41 percent from the field while holding Belle Plaine to a chilly 22.5 percent. Lynnville-Sully cashed in 16-of-28 from the free-throw line.
Marissa Vos powered in 18 points and controlled 18 rebounds for Lynnville-Sully. Lysandra James added 12 points. Vos and Brenna Lanser each had four assists.

“Our guys did a lot a good things tonight,” said Nick Harthoorn, Lynnville-Sully head coach. “We came up a little short on the scoreboard, but we are getting better as a team. I think we will learn a lot from this experience.”

PCM boys 59, CMB boys 46
BAXTER — The Prairie City-Monroe boys' basketball team forced Collins-Maxwell/Baxter into 17 turnovers Friday and a balanced scoring attack guided the offense to a 59-46 road win.
The Mustangs got 14 points from junior Logan Gilman and senior Trey Lindsay but seniors Ricky Reeve and Lucas Pendroy also put in 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
Lindsay gave the Mustangs a five-point lead at the break following a steal on defense and layup at the other end. PCM carried the momentum into the second half and outscored the Raiders 17-10 in the third and eventually kept CMB winless on the season.
The Mustangs are now 3-2 overall and 3-1 in Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play after winning their second straight. CMB is now 0-5 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Seniors Bryce Kemp and Joey Nissen each scored 12 points to lead the Raiders, while Seth Balke chipped in eight and Brady Stover scored all seven of his points in the first two quarters.
Kemp, who woke up Friday with a temperature of 101 degrees but still played, also led CMB with eight rebounds and Balke finished with six assists.
The Raiders failed to score 50 points for the fourth straight game. And the season-high for points was just 51 back in the season opener against Nevada.
The 59 points for PCM was its second lowest output of the season. The Mustangs still found a way to win though, thanks in large part to Lindsay and Reeve's pressure defense at the top of the zone.

The Mustangs did not attempt a 3-pointer for the second straight game and had 17 assists on their 22 makes from the floor. They were 22-of-52 from the floor and 15-of-23 from the line.
The 59 points scored by the Mustangs (5-2, 5-0) was the lowest output of the year in conference play. CMB (0-7, 0-5) though has been held to less than 40 points in five of its seven games.
