Aurora Heights Elementary was celebrating the achievements of its readers Tuesday.
Dr. Jason Glass, at the request of Aurora Heights reading instructor Doug Smith, presented the students with certificates as part of the “Reach for the Stars” reading program.
“As sixth graders, you have made the transition from learning to read, to reading to learn,” Glass told the students. “Your reading opens up whole new worlds for you.”
The fourth graders read a total of 5,673 books this school year. The fifth graders read 2,771 books, and the sixth graders read nearly 27 million words.
Also during the ceremony Tuesday, sixth grader Jessica Jacobs presented a book report to the entire student body on a book she read about autism titled “Rules” by Cynthia Lord.
