Paul F. Schell, 90, of Newton died on Jan. 15, 2012, at Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing in Newton. Paul has been cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.
Paul was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Reinbeck, Iowa, to Fred and Nona (O’Connell) Schell. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and served his country in the U.S. Navy as a pilot in World War II. Paul made his home in Newton, where he worked as a senior design engineer at the Maytag Company for 29 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the First Presbyterian Church, BPO Elks Newton Lodge 1270, Newton Masonic Lodge 59, an ambassador for Skiff Memorial Hospital and a past member of both the Newton Management Club and the Newton Country Club. Paul was an avid golfer and loved to travel.
Paul is survived by his stepsons, Timothy (Candice) Kling of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and David Kling (Jeri Bartunek) of Overland Park, Kan., and a stepson-in-law, Richard (Cathy) Whittlesey of Windsor, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Kathryn Sue “Katy” (Main) Schell in 1973 and Marianna (Dunn) Schell in 2001; and a step-daughter, Kathryn Kling Whittlesey. Memorials may be made to the Kathyrn Kling Whittlesey Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Central College, Pella, Iowa.
