When the flag on the flagpole at Great Western Bank in Newton started getting a little tattered, Chaz Allen saw it as an opportunity to get the local Cub Scouts involved in learning a little flag etiquette.
Tuesday evening, with members of the Cub Scout Pack 356 Wolves Den #3 in attendance, Allen hauled down the bank’s old flag and presented it to the Cub Scouts. The Scouts, including Thomas Hodnett, Dryden DeKoning, Kyler Van Brogen, Kobe Clash, Eli Burgess and Ashton Barker, folded the flag in the proper triangular manner and presented it to Paul Brown, Commander of the Newton American Legion Post 111. The flag will be properly disposed of in a flag-burning ceremony at a later date.
A new flag was then installed at the Great Western Bank. Flags can be purchased from the American Legion for $25 for a 3-by-5-foot flag, or $36 for a 4-by-6-foot flag.
