Rita Faye Styer, 60, peacefully passed away on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, surrounded by love in her home in Black Mountain, N.C.
Rita was born April 5, 1950, in Newton, Iowa, to Raymond and Rubie Carson. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in the Class of 1968. Being a true free spirit Rita traveled extensively and resided in many parts of the country including Iowa, California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Idaho and most recently North Carolina.
Rita is survived by four children, Raymond Styer, Robin Styer, Jacob Styer and Emily Spellman, and eight grandchildren, Kassandra Imhoff, Jacklyn Imhoff, Timothy Young, twins Alexa and Madison Styer, Andrew Styer, Megan Styer and Maya Lou Spellman. She also is survived by a brother, Ronald Carson; a sister, Ruth E. Mattix; one nephew, Nolan Carson; and three nieces, Rae Jean Leonard, Rhonda Brackett and Jessica Carson. Preceding Rita in death are her parents, Raymond and Rubie Carson.
As one whom so appreciated life, Rita enjoyed sewing, reading, art, costume design, staging homes, community activities and most of all her grandchildren, family, friends and dog Oliver. Rita was strong and independent, loved by all who were blessed to know her. She was a kind, loving woman, full of life and compassion. Her passing was as graceful and peaceful as she lived her life.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
