Santa visits Newton downtown from the north pole for open house

To the Editor,
At the invitation of Annette West of the Newton Chamber of commerce, I decided to visit Newton on Sunday afternoon for the Christmas Open House activities.
Since it was sort of early, the weather was a bit warm, but not nearly as warm as the great reception I received from all of the people downtown going in the shops on and around the square. Some stores were more crowded than others. As a matter of fact, there were some I didn’t even try to venture into. With my size, I didn’t want to be the proverbial “Bull in a China Shop.” (There were also many tasty treats).
The hospitality of the merchants was great and I hope you all will go back, not only during the next few weeks, but all year long. There is so much to see and much to purchase in these shops.
The attitude of the “People  on the Street” seemed so positive and happy getting ready for the most joyous season of all: Christmas.
Christmas Eve is comign soon so prepare in your celebration for the true meaning of Christmas.
And now to the real joy of my visit: the children! Thank you mommies and daddies for bringing your children downtown. I had so much fun visiting with them about how the past year had gone, if they had been good and listened to mommy and daddy and did not fight with brothers and sisters and if they ate their vegetables. I also told them I would try to check in with them again sometime in the next month or so.
So if I don’t happen to see you again before Christmas, “Merry Christmas to one and all!”

With much love and happiness,
Santa Claus
