Richard Garold Willemsen, 83, of Salisbury and formerly of Lockport, Ill., and Ocala, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born June 7, 1926, in Monroe, Iowa, he was the son of the late Dirk Willemsen and Gertie Dop Willemsen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 101st Military Police during World War II. He was retired from TWA, where he was a lead mechanic with the airline, after 34 years. Mr. Willemsen was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. Preceding him in death other than his parents were a brother, Harold Willemsen, and a brother-in-law, Jerome Minshew. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years Janice Jamison Willemsen of Salisbury; two sons, Alan Willemsen (Julie) of Grimes, Iowa, and Danny Trezzo (Sandy) of Bloomingdale, Ill., and daughter with whom he lived, Marlene W. Minshew of Salisbury. Also surviving is a brother, Marion Willemsen (Wanda), and sister, Margaret Hammer (Dean), both of Newton; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Willemsen will be cremated, and a memorial service and burial will be held at a later date in Grimes. Comments
