The group’s big project for the month was the installation of the flagpole with solar light in the triangle. There were three club members present with their husbands to do the work of placing the pole. There were two American Legion members observing the club at the task. The American Legion helped with the financing of the project. The next big project is getting electricity to the gazebo. The railroad has given its permission. The club is now working with Alliant Energy for the electricity and the city’s permission. More information will be coming. President Myers contacted Brett Doerring from Edward Jones Financial, who sponsors the Tallest Corn Contest, for the club’s entry in the contest. He met with the club to cut and measure the club’s corn stalk it had grown in the Children’s Garden. It measured 12 feet, 143⁄4 inches tall. The club meeting also included an informative program on the life of different butterflies, which was presented by Louise Meakins.
