Cash penalty seems out of lineTo the Editor, Verizon customers, be aware. Although online bill paying is popular these days, some of us “old school” computer-less folks occasionally prefer to pay in person. My husband and I took our current Verizon bill and written check to them last Friday. We were informed they weren’t set up to accept checks yet and did we have another method of payment. My husband took cash out of his wallet and this time we were told that paying cash would cost us $3 extra! We left and sent the check in the mail. We contacted Verizon, the Daily News, the county attorney’s office, the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General Office. Apparently the only way to heighten awareness of this outrageous manner of doing business is to let others know about it. Ask yourself this: Would you patronize any business that charged you a $3 penalty for paying cash? Kim and Susan Waldman Newton Comments
