Police BlotterNewton Police Department • Scott C. DeBruyn, 35, of Newton was arrested and charged with eluding, reckless driving and two counts of failure to obey a stop sign after authorities initiated a traffic stop on his vehicle at 10:22 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of South 13th Avenue East. DeBruyn allegedly refused to stop, squealing his tires and spinning his vehicle in a circle before eluding authorities for several miles, allegedly traveling at more than 100 mph at times during the chase. He eventually was stopped at South 44th Avenue East and East Fifth Street South and told authorities he did not stop because he was attempting to get to his son, who he said had been involved in a car accident. Officials determined there had been no accident, and DeBruyn was transported to the Jasper County Jail. • Adam W.
