Police BlotterNewton Police Department • Richard L. Ferrell, 56, of Newton was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, second offense, after authorities stopped him at 12:10 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of East Fourth Street North for a traffic violation. Ferrell was charged for allegedly driving while intoxicated and released on his own recognizance. • William R. Floyd, 15, of Newton was charged with simple assault after authorities responded to a complaint of an assault at 10:42 a.m. Friday at Newton Senior High School. Floyd was charged for allegedly hitting another student and was referred to Juvenile Court Services. • James J. Hannagan, 19, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a complaint at 1:04 a.m. Saturday of a male lying in the street in the 200 block of South Third Avenue West. The man was identified as Hannagan, and he was transported to Skiff Medical Center in Newton by ambulance to be treated for a head injury. Hannagan was charged for allegedly being intoxicated and released on his own recognizance. • Daniel J. Kern, 40, of Newton was arrested and charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities received a report of a suspect leaving Kum & Go at 1708 S. Eighth Ave. E. without paying for $38.41 in gas shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday. The suspect was identified as Kern by his license plate number, and he was charged Friday in connection with the theft and transported to the Jasper County Jail. • Lauren E. Kruckenberg, 21, of Newton was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after authorities responded to a complaint at 4:16 a.m. Friday of a vehicle sitting at a traffic light at East 12th Street South and First Avenue East during several cycles of light changes without moving. Authorities found the driver, identified as Kruckenberg, asleep in the vehicle, and she was charged for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Kruckenberg was released on her own recognizance. • Two teenagers were charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a complaint of a possible fight at 4:45 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of West Fourth Street South. Authorities located eight males standing on the sidewalk in that area, but no one was charged for fighting. Joseph R. Parker, 19, of Colfax and Johnathan J. Forck, 18, of Des Moines both were charged for allegedly being intoxicated in public, and they were transported to the Jasper County Jail. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Comments
