C-M wins baseball opener, 12-0
MELCHER — The Colfax-Mingo baseball team started its season on a strong note, beating Melcher-Dallas 12-0 Tuesday in five innings in non-conference action.
The game was called after five innings, as the 10-run rule was implemented.
Notching 10 hits on the night, the Tigerhawks jumped on the board quickly with two runs in the first, then added four in the second for an early 6-0 lead. C-M added three more runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.
“I thought for the first game we did a good job at the plate,” C-M coach Jeff Lindsay said. “We were a little anxious at times, but that’s normal for the start of the season. We did a good job, and made some good swings.”
Brice Hill, Michael Wilson and Devin Mason each had two hits.
Kyle Sommars added a triple, while Ryan Berkey and Nolan Daft both had a hit. Wilson led the team with 2 RBIs.
Hill picked up the win on the mound, striking out eight and walking two while allowing no hits in four innings of work.
Daft pitched the final inning for C-M, allowing two walks and a hit while striking out one.
“Brice did real well,” Lindsay said. “He’s a senior. We expect these older guys to go out and give us good innings, and he did.”
The C-M baseball team is on the road tonight at Saydel, before opening its home season Friday with Ogden.
