Giggles, screams and splashes are back once again as Maytag Pool opened for the season on Saturday. After weathering the storm, the pool filled up as kids and adults welcomed the beginning of summer.

Featuring zero entry access, water fountains, two water slides, a diving well and six 25 meter lanes, Maytag Pool is a fun summertime family attraction located among the Maytag Bowl, disc golf course and playground in Maytag Park.

“One thing we have new this year is Toddler Swim,” Newton Director of Public Works Keith Laube said. “That is for parents or guardians and children age 5 and under.”

The new swim time will be at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Started at the request community members with little ones, the time is available for the toddlers to play in the shallow area, begin to learn how to swim and enjoy the pool on their own.

Toddler Swim is $2 for adults and four and five year olds and free for kids three and under. Pool passes are also accepted. It will take a two week break from June 19 through June 30 for annual swim lessons.

The pool is also equipped with a new heater, keeping the water at a comfortable 78 degrees all summer.

“The other heater was pretty much put in the pool when it was renovated in the late 1990s. It served its suppose, about 20 years,” Laube said.

Also at the pool, lap swimming is available from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Regular pool hours are from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 1 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Daily admission to the pool is $4.50 per person. Pool season passes are available in groups of one to seven people. The group does not need to be family, the passes just need to be purchased at the same time.

Once the passes are purchased, a photo identification will be created for each individual. All season pool passes must be purchased at the Newton Parks Office, 1700 N. Fourth Ave. W., in the Public Works building. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Passes start at $55 per person and decrease to $50 per person at a three person pass, $45 per person with a four person pass and $40 per person with a five through seven person pass.

The pool is available to rent for birthday parties and other celebrations during pool hours and after the pool has closed for the general public. For more information, contact the parks office at 641-792-1470.
