Downtown host to community trick-or-treating

Several Newton businesses will be taking part in the community trick-or-treating event on Thursday.

The Pet Kingdom Halloween Pet Costume Contest will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the west side of the courthouse.

From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. there will be trick-or-treating at the courthouse square and DMACC Newton Campus, 600 N. Second Ave. W. Other businesses participating include: Skiff Medical Center, 204 N. Fourth Ave. E. from 5 to 8 p.m.; McCann Village, 1105 E. 12th Ave. E., from 5 to 7 p.m.; Nelson Manor, 1500 First Ave. E.; from 6 to 8 p.m.; Newton Village, 110 N. Fifth Ave. W., from 6 to 7 p.m.; Park Centre, 500 First St. N., from 6 to 8 p.m.

Two haunted houses will be open: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. E-Clips Haunted House will be open with admission being one canned good item for the Salvation Army Food Bank; then from 6 to 8 p.m. Newton Health Care Haunted House will be open at 200 S. Eight Ave. E. free of charge.

Begger’s Night in the city runs from 6 to 8 p.m.
