Lions breakfast to benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind, Jasper County Senior Center

The Newton Lions Club will be host a fall pancake breakfast and silent auction from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jasper County Senior Center, 702 E. Third St. S. The proceeds will benefit the Jasper County Senior Center and Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Leader Dogs for the Blind is in Rochester, Minn., and was established in 1939. Lions Clubs throughout the world have supported the organization and its clients financially and have brought thousands of people who needed assistance through Leader Dog's doors. More information is available at http://www.leaderdog.org/.

The Jasper County Senior Center was incorporated in 1973. They purchased the building at the current location in 1975. Bingo is played every Friday and Sunday afternoons and there is a potluck the second Tuesday of each month. Besides the meal, there is usually a musical program. All Jasper County residents 55 and over are welcome. Contact Bev Edge at 641-792-2492 or Margaret Hammer at 792-1903 for more information.

The Newton Lions Club was charted in 2009. The proceeds from the pancake breakfast are being used to sponsor a puppy at the Newton Correctional Facility. The puppy, Nelcie, and her trainer plan to attend the breakfast Saturday.
