Blue Demons down Mustangs

MONROE — Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs and Albia’s Blue Demons went into Friday’s Class 2A District 7 football game with a lot riding on the outcome.

The Mustangs, Blue Demons and North Polk Comets began the night tied at 3-1 in district play, battling for second through fourth playoff spots out of the district.

Things did not go well for the Mustangs on Senior Night. PCM turned the ball over five times in the first half and the 10th-ranked Blue Demons capitalized on those miscues. Albia powered to a 34-6 halftime lead on its way to a 48-14 win.

Noah Clark caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Logan Gilman early in the second quarter, pulling the Mustangs within 21-6. That was as close as PCM would get.

Logan Litrell rushed in from one yard out in the third quarter for PCM’s other touchdown.

Albia was led by Carter Isley with 216 yards on 27 carries and one touchdown. Matt Baker scored two touchdowns for the Blue Demons, while Kieran Judge and Luke Sarver had one touchdown run each.

The Mustangs are 3-2 in district play and 4-4 overall. They are in the playoffs, but to secure the third seed spot out of District 7, the Mustangs go on the road Friday to North Polk. North Polk lost to Collins-Maxwell/Baxter, 28-7, and is at 3-2 and 4-4.

Ronnie Marshall had 138 yards on 27 carries for PCM. No other statistics for the Mustangs were made available.
