Two properties in D&D program up for sale

The purchase of two properties in the D&D program will be discussed at the Monday Newton City Council meeting. Properties at 315 E. 15th St. N. and 608 S. Second Ave. W. are currently owned by the city after being purchased through D&D program.

A public notice was given for any interested parties to submit proposals for the lots. All offers must be submitted by 4 p.m. Oct. 20. Any funds received from the sale of the properties would return to the D&D program for use in new acquisitions as well as demolitions.

Newton Village is proposing a bump out access point that would make access possible for visitors, staff and emergency vehicles to the parking area and the skilled nursing wing during food deliveries.

The council will also discuss its support for the Alliant Energy Hometown Rewards Program. The program was created to promote energy saving and lowering costs at the community level. The city would have to apply for the program and be selected from a pool of local communities.

In other business:

• The council will continue discussion of the franchise fees to be imposed on the electric and natural gas utilities.

• Jody Rhone will discuss snow and ice removal.

• City Administrator Robert Knabel will discuss feeding wildlife.
