Years ago as a head football coach in Des Moines, Coach Frank Gilson and I frequently exchanged game film. As the icon of Newton high school football. Coach Gilson often spoke of the deep family core values and blue-collar, no nonsense work ethic of Newton and the surrounding community. Coach Gilson knew what was important and proud of the people he served. Coach Gilson spoke with conviction and character So does Pat Payton. Mr. Payton is now seeking to serve the Newton area with the same pride, purpose and dedication.
Patrick Payton is pursuing election to the Iowa State Legislature representing most of Jasper County (House District 29). I had the opportunity to teach Pat in high school. He demonstrated common-sense intelligence and hands-in-the- dirt effort. Mr. Payton brings traits Newton and Jasper County understand.
Pat Payton has always been eager to ask questions. He listens. He does the necessary research. Pat forthrightly debates solutions. He honed these skills first as an educator He has taught at the high school level and collegiate setting. Mr. Payton then went on to earn a PhD and law degree.
But Pat Payton is much more than an academic. He is a practical-minded doer that understands lunch- pail laboring. After high school, Pat labored for Pittsburg-Des Moines Steel to earn tuition money to attend Drake University. Pat has always been an example of achieving through hard work and reward through dedication and never quit attitude. Mr. Payton will deliver all these qualities to the Iowa House for Jasper County.
Pat Payton has long now been a gifted attorney. When injured in an industrial accident, I turned to Pat for legal advice. He was able to research and demonstrate a defective design issue and settled the case successfully and justly. Over the years my family and I have remained in contact with Pat because of his character and legal expertise. He tells it like it is in simple and straight-forward terms.
