RFA names Kelley champion of fuels

DES MOINES — State Rep. Dan Kelley, D-Newton, has been named a 2014 “Champion of Renewable Fuels” by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association.

“With Iowa being a leader in renewable fuel production, it provides quality jobs right here in Jasper County, while making our environment healthier and reducing our dependence on foreign oil,” said Kelley, who is serving his second term in the Iowa Legislature.

Kelley received the “Champion of Renewable Fuels” award for his strong record supporting renewable fuels and leadership for renewable fuels in the Iowa Legislature.

Currently, Iowa has 12 biodiesel facilities including one in Newton, with the capacity to produce 315 million gallons annually. In addition, Iowa has 42 ethanol refineries capable of producing nearly 3.8 billion gallons annually.

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.
