Karen Sue Wolfe

Karen Sue Wolfe, 72, of Newton, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at her home. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the funeral home or the graveside during the service.

Karen, the daughter of James John “Pat” and Myrtle (Harter) Shermerhorn, was born May 27, 1942, in Newton. She graduated from Colfax High School. Karen was united in marriage with Ora “Buck” Wolfe on Aug. 27, 1960, in Unionville, Mo. They made their home in Jasper County; living in Colfax, Prairie City and Newton. Karen was a homemaker and had been a housekeeper at Clearview Manor in Prairie City for six years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Colfax Baptist Church and the Metz Church. Karen enjoyed living on the acreage and tending to the dogs, flowers and gardens. She especially loved being with her family.

Those left to honor Karen’s memory are her husband, Ora “Buck” Wolfe of Newton; son, David Wolfe of Colfax; grandchildren, Jenny (Kevin) Porter of West Des Moines and Michael Wolfe of Colfax; her great-grandchildren, Kayden and Emily Porter; sisters, Dixie (Larry) McKinney of Newton and Betty (Gerald) Repp of Newton; her aunt, Peggy Maston of Newton; and a daughter-in-law, Michelle Forck of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Jesse and Dorothy Wolfe; and an aunt, Carry Shermerhorn.
