Lynnville-Sully defeats Montezuma

MONTEZUMA — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks evened up their South Iowa Cedar League volleyball record and that of their host, Montezuma, Thursday.

With a 25-23, 25-16, 25-21 road win, the Hawks improved to 2-2 in SICL action. The loss dropped Montezuma to 2-2 in league play also.

The Hawks’ net attack was led by Shelby Davis with 12 kills and Brenna Lanser with nine kills. Davis came up with 15 digs and Lanser had five digs. Riley Rockwell was credited with 16 set assists, plus she went 16-for-16 at the service line.

“The girls played very well and we’re very happy with the win,” said Heather James, Lynnville-Sully head coach.

Lynnville-Sully (6-2) have a busy swing through its schedule over the next week or so. The Hawks play Saturday at North Mahaska’s tournament then host North Mahaska Monday and English Valleys Tuesday in league play.

They go to BGM Thursday, play in Pella Christian’s tournament Sept. 27 and end the long stretch with a league match at Belle Plaine.
