Newton JV loses

Newton High’s junior varsity wasn’t able to hold Grinnell’s Tigers in check at home Monday night. Grinnell posted a 29-14 win over the Cardinals at H.A. Lynn Stadium.

Dalton Nevels 67-yard touchdown run with 8:52 left in the second quarter put Newton in front, 7-3. Grinnell led 16-7 at halftime.

Parker Schuster scored from one yard out for Newton at the end of the third quarter. Josh Gulling kicked his second extra point to make it 22-14.

Grinnell turned an interception into its final TD of the night.

Nevels finished with 149 yards rushing for the Cardinals. Nevels, Brady Smith, Cole Peters, Nathan Lanferman and Jake Bennett led the NHS defense.
