Frederick Leo Brown, Jr.

Frederick Leo Brown, Jr., 59, of Port Allen, La., formerly of Newton, died Saturday morning, Sept. 6, 2014, in a fatal motor vehicle accident while on his way home from James Construction Company where he worked as a millwright.

A memorial graveside service and military rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax with visitation and luncheon will be held following interment. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated in Fred’s name.

Fred was the son of the late Frederick Brown, Sr. and Betty (Alexander) Brown. He was born May 23, 1955, in Des Moines. He graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1974. Fred attended DMACC for two years after high school, and then served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1976-1978, and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Nancy Allen on Jan. 16, 2012 in Troy, Pa.

Fred is preceded in death by his father, Frederick L. Brown, Sr.; and his nephew, Joseph Brown. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Port Allen, La.; his son, Matthew Brown; his mother, Betty Brown; sister, Loretta Bowman; brothers, Preston, Matthew and Patrick Brown; many nieces and nephews, all of Newton; and his many friends and neighbors.
