Downed line causes power outage

A storm related power outage caused more than 1,000 Newton residents to lose power Tuesday night.

Alliant Energy Spokesperson Justin Foss said a tree fell into a power line around 10:30 p.m. on the southwest side of town causing 1,128 customers to lose power.

Crews arrived on scene and were able to restore power within 40 minutes, Foss said.

An earlier report that a widespread power outage was impacting Jasper County was unfounded.
