Best performance not enough for CMB volleyball

JEFFERSON — Steady improvement wasn’t enough for Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s volleyball team Tuesday night against Greene County.

The host Rams beat the Raiders in three sets (25-13, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23) despite what CMB head coach Scott Ranck described as some of the best play he’s seen from his team so far this year.

“We had several long rallies, especially in the first and third sets, that we just came up short on,” he said. “A few of those go our way (and) it is a different ball game.”

Greene County sophomore Nadia Fisher posted a match-high 12 kills for the Rams (1-0) and teammate Marissa Promes added 10.

Junior Bridget Hurley led the Raiders (1-2, 1-1) with five kills. Senior Mackenzie Schmitz had 16 assists in a losing effort and Toni Spencer led CMB with 17 digs.

“Overall, it was probably the best we have played as a team so far this season, collectively,” Ranck said. “We have been playing better each match and need to keep that up as we head to the Perry tournament on Thursday.”
