ACT, SAT prep materials available at library

770 career, academic-oriented courses, practice tests available online for free

The Newton Public Library has its very own “yellow brick road” called Learning Express Library for those seeking electronic resources providing tutorials, ebooks and practice tests to help local patrons develop better skills.

LEL is available to anyone with a library card. Library patrons create a login account using their library card and then have access to multiple “centers,” which are broad areas of help. The centers pertaining to high school and those preparing for college include:

• High School Equivalency Center — This center focuses on skill building and practice for the GED test.

• College Preparation Center — Resources at this center include ebooks and practice tests for ACT, SAT, AP, PSAT/NMSQT, TOEFL iBT and even help with writing a winning college admissions essay. These tests are unlimited, and LEL users can take them as many times as they like. Users also can download books and take courses in the areas they struggle with.

• College Center — Brush up on math, reading, writing and science skills. There are CLEP practice tests and graduate school admissions exam help for GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MAT, MCAT and PCAT.

• School Center — The resources here can help elementary, middle and high school students prepare for important tests, get extra help with assignments and boost their skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, science and many kinds of math.
