Construction will begin at Newton City Hall on Sept. 2 as city streets crews work to repair the broken curb in front of the main entrance to the building.
Presently, the curb south of the handicap parking space creates a tripping hazard and blocks the handicap stall from meeting code. The plan is to remove this curb south of the handicap stall and stripe this area to create an access aisle for the handicap parking space. The handicap ramp will also be modified to eliminate the tripping hazard.
Although a portion of the sidewalk will be blocked off during construction, city hall and Newton WaterWorks will remain open with regular business hours via the main entrance to the building. The WaterWorks payment drive will be closed for the duration of the construction.
