Last Thursday, the Least of Saints Ministry donated more than $650 to the Sing Me to Heaven Foundation of La Porte City, Iowa. The foundation raises money for families for funeral and burial expenses for Iowa children.
“We had a garage bake sale for a week,” said Anita Bayles,of Least of Saints. Bayles, along with Linda Greene, Pastor Scott Greene’s wife, were the main organizers of the event that took place at Least of Saints Ministry, 2900 First Ave. E.
“Everything was donated,” Bayles said. Pastor Greene said he was amazed by the money that could be raised from just a garage bake sale. The ministry also had a prison inmate donate to the cause through their organization on two separate occasions.
Diane McIntosh and Jennifer Mehlert of Sing Me to Heaven accepted the donation from the Greenes, Bayles and her grandson Michael Craig on behalf of the entire ministry.
“I like the fact that 85 percent of what (Sing Me to Heaven) does (goes to the families),” Scott Greene said. Greene has run into a lot of charities that have a much smaller donation percentage, so he was happy to see so much go to the families.
In its third year, Sing Me To Heaven would like to give more to the families, but it does have expenses. No one in the foundation takes a salary and it tries to keep what expenses it does have to a minimum.
