The Jasper County Jail does not refuse individuals who are brought in for not having proper immigration documentation, said Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty.
Halferty said local authorities will, however, only hold them for a maximum of just under 48 hours if no court order is sent from a federal judge.
In the past six to eight months, Halferty said the Jasper County Jail has only held one individual on a federal detainer and that individual was held on additional charges.
