At approximately 10:08 a.m. Thursday, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a report of a domestic situation involving two men in the 14200 block of North 95th Avenue West in Jasper County.
While enroute, deputies were informed that one of the men was armed with a shotgun. Upon arrival, they learned the male with a shotgun was Brett Janes, 35. The other man was able to leave the residence with no problem.
Law enforcement officers from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement set up a perimeter around the property. The Story County ambulance and EMS also were at the scene.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Rescue Unit was deployed to protect officers as they approached the property.
Officers were able to contact Janes via cell phone and after approximately 15 minutes of negotations, Janes left the residence and was taken into custody. He is charged with possession of firearm by a felon and was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
