Download Free Music

Download and own songs from the extensive Freegal database! Up to three songs per week, or one song and a music video. Every Monday, three new downloads will again be available!

Go to www.newton.lib.ia.us, click on Freegal, log in with your up-to-date library card, and explore the 7 million songs from 28,000 recording labels. You can also get the app for your mobile device. Need help? Call the information desk, (641) 792-4108.

PINS coming

to Library Accounts

Starting Sept. 2, logging in to the library catalog will require a four-digit PIN.

When you access your library account, renew your materials online, or place a hold, you will be asked for your library number and the PIN. You will be able to set or change your PIN yourself through ‘My Account’ in the library catalog. Our downloadables databases, Freegal and Wilbor, will require your PIN as well. It all starts on Sept. 2.

Card Game Night

Join us at 5:30 p.m. Monday for Card Game Night in the library meeting room. Learn a new game, play a familiar game with friends, or sit and socialize. Snacks will be provided.

Resume Workshops

The library is partnering with Goodwill Career Connections to offer resume workshops at the library.

Participants will create a resume and learn how to make their resumes look professional. Register for workshops, from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday or Aug. 26 in the library meeting room by calling the information desk at (641) 792-4108.

Knee-High Naturalists

Knee-High Naturalists program for ages 3 to 5 will meet at the Newton Public Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Learn about animals that are diurnal, or active, during the day. We will sing a fun song and make a craft. The program is offered by the Jasper County Conservation Naturalist.

Chick Flick & Lit:

‘The Mortal Instruments’

Join us at 6 p.m. Thursday in the library meeting room for a free movie! The movie will be “The Mortal Instruments: The City of Bones,” a movie adaptation of the book “City of Bones” by Cassandra Clare.

Synopsis: When her mother disappears, Clary Fray learns that she descends from a line of warriors who protect our world from demons. She joins forces with others like her and heads into a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld. Movie excerpt taken from IMDB.com.

iPad Basics Class

Rescheduled

The iPad Basics Class scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 25 in the library meeting room has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 22. Learn how to download ebooks free through the library, connect to Wi-Fi, change settings and sync email. Bring your fully charged iPad, Apple ID and password, and your library card (if you have one). Participants do not need to register for this class.
