Twelve middle school science teachers from central Iowa visited REG Newton on Tuesday to learn about the biodiesel process, future careers opportunities for their students, how to incorporate biodiesel into a lab setting, environmental impact and how to inform and excite their students about advances in science. The teachers are part of a summer program through Iowa State University called the Summer Academy for Middle School Teachers. The two-week long learning program is sponsored by The National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals and is a continuing education experience for them.
